Jeremiah R. McGuire Jerry McGuire joined the State Police in 1972 and was assigned to Troop L in Litchfield for two years and Troop I in Bethany for 12 years. He served as a Peer Contact for three years with the Employees Assistance Program and has been with the Union since its inception in 1981. He was elected Secretary of the Union in 1982 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1992.
As a member of the Executive Committee, he served on the Labor Management Committee, Stress Committee, and Training Committee. He was Chairman of the 1987 to 1990 Contract Negotiations Team and served on every team since 1984.
Serving numerous positions on the Union's Board of Directors, he then joined the Union staff as their full-time Labor Agent in 1992. As the Principal Labor Agent, he is responsible for representing the Union membership in workplace issues including Internal Affairs investigations and disciplinary issues.
Principal Labor Agent McGuire oversees the day-to-day responsibilities incurred by the Union's stewards. On a daily basis, he answers incoming calls and member issues and is always available to the Union membership. Jerry directs all committees established under collective bargaining agreement and other committees impacting in member's rights and benefits.
As a member of all Contract Negotiating Teams, he is quite familiar with all aspects of the NP-1 contract. In addition, Labor Agent McGuire still chairs the Training Committee, Stress Committee, and Sick Leave Bank Committee.
As a registered Lobbyist, Jerry represents the Union at the Capital along with Lobbyist, John Kolosky and staff members of Levin, Brennan, Powers and Shea. He is the Chairman of the Union's Political Action Committee (PAC) in which he prepares the monthly Ethics Report to the Secretary of the State's Office.

Lobbyist/Labor Agent
John Kolosky joined the State Police in 1975 and was assigned to Troop H in Hartford, Troop C in Tolland, Internal Affairs, the Training Academy, Headquarters, and then retired as a Master Sergeant from Troop W in Windsor Locks. John served as the Master Sergeant Representative for the Union as well as a member of the Contract Negotiations Committee. He is the Chairman of the Board for the Connecticut State Police Credit Union.
John Kolosky became a Lobbyist with the Union's team in January of 2003 working directly with the Union's President, Board of Directors, and Principal Labor Agent. He is the in-house liaison between the Union and lobbying firm of Levin, Brennan, Powers and Shea. He assists the outside lobbying firm in promoting the Union's Legislative Agenda.

Marie R. Galizia
Administrative Assistant
Marie Galizia started with the Union in October 1997 as a part-time Secretary and became full time in April 1998. Marie became the Administrative Assistant in 2007.
She is responsible for the day-to-day administrative operations of the Union Office. She works closely with the Union's President, Treasurer, Board of Directors, Accountants, Attorneys and membership.
Marie prepares the agenda including the Treasurer's Report for the monthly Executive Committee/Board of Directors meeting. She maintains accounts payables/receivables through reconciliation, including payroll and pension; oversees all financial records for preparation of fiscal year audits and tax returns with accountants and/or IRS auditors. She prepares the journal entries and year-end Trial Balance to close and balance the Union's books.
In addition, she maintains accounts payables/receivables for the Union's PAC account through reconciliation as well as preparation of state filing forms to the Secretary of the State's office. Marie prepares the Annual Budget with the Treasurer and Finance Committee and reviews the annual insurance policies, which include automobile; umbrella; workers' compensation; business/fire/building; and officers' liability.
All personnel files are maintained by Marie, including vacation and sick time accruals and preparation of 1099 forms annually for outside consultants including arbitrators. She assists with members' calls and daily issues raised by staff members including maintenance problems and security issues at the 500 Main Street property. She oversees the cleaning services as well as the grounds maintenance services.
Marie serves as the Editor of the Union's Newsletter, Trooper News. She is responsible for organizing Union-sponsored events as directed by the Board of Directors. She is responsible for all updates and changes to this website meeting the goals of objectives of the Board of Directors.

Marie is the Managing Editor for Connecticut Trooper magazine, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the magazine, which is published bi-annually, including its payables, receivables, audits, and bank statement reconciliation. She writes, reviews and selects all articles for Connecticut Trooper. She researches numerous newspapers and media websites for articles and photographs to be included in Connecticut Trooper. She types the articles, arranges for the purchase of photos, and requests the editor's permission for printing. In addition, she monitors outgoing calls to potential advertisers supporting the magazine. She is responsible for all incoming calls to verify donations made to Connecticut Trooper and works closely with the publisher to create the magazine.

Neal E. Waananen
Membership Representative
Neal Waananen joined the State Police in 1982 and was assigned as a Trooper to Troop H in Hartford, Troop F in Westbrook, Troop C in Stafford, before becoming a Resident Trooper in Somers, and later as a Detective with Central District Major Crime. Neal was then promoted and assigned as a Sergeant to Troop W Bradley Airport, before becoming a Resident Trooper Supervisor in Mansfield. Lastly, Neal was promoted and assigned as a Master Sergeant to Troop D in Danielson and Troop C in Tolland, before retiring in 2008.
Neal served as the Master Sergeant Steward on the Board of Directors for the Union during his last six years and participated in many other Union committees.
Neal was hired by the Union in April of 2008 to take on the newly created staff position as Membership Representative. Neal works under the direction of the Union President and in consultation with the Union's Director of Labor Relations, Lobbyist/Labor Agent, and General Counsel.
Daniel E. Livingston
Legal Counsel
Dan Livingston is an attorney who has been a labor and progressive activist in three states -- New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. A life-time member of the United Auto Workers Union, Dan is the product of the marriage of a Union President, and a Social Worker, who boasts of being on picket lines before he could walk. Dan worked for two years as a Union organizer before entering Yale Law School in 1979. He graduated in 1982, and has since been admitted to the Connecticut and Federal district court bars, as well as the to the bar of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
Dan has been a member of the firm for over 20 years and has been a partner for over 18 years. He has extensive experience in labor and employment law and has handled as counsel or co-counsel many employment matters in various forums, including the National Labor Relations Board, the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights & Opportunities, the Connecticut Superior Court, the U.S. District Court, the Connecticut Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Most recently Dan served as lead counsel in the successful effort of State Employee Unions to secure health and pension benefits for domestic partners of the state's gay and lesbian employees.
Dan represents or works closely with a long list of labor and progressive organizations, including the UAW, SEBAC (a coalition of all State Employee Unions), the Congress of Connecticut Community Colleges, the CWA, the IAM, the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union, the SEIU, CWEALF, the CCAG, and Citizens for Economic Opportunity, and has represented hundreds of individuals in discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination cases against their employers. He is a member of various professional associations, including the Labor and Employment Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, and the Lawyer's Coordinating Committee of the AFL-CIO, and has been selected Association to be a James P. Cooper Fellow. He has spoken and written on employment and labor law topics at various professional seminars and is widely known for his expertise on those matters. He serves as a Special Master for the Federal District Court.
Dan is a member of numerous community and labor organizations, among them CWEALF, Citizen's for Economic Opportunity, the National Organization for Women, the Connecticut Civil Liberties Union, NARAL, CEO, CCAG the National Lawyer's Guild, the NAACP, and the Southern Poverty Law Foundation, and the UAW. Dan also sits on the Board of several charitable organizations, including the Community Skills Building Foundation, the Anthem Foundation of Connecticut, and The Connecticut Health and Research Trust.
